The Lille citadel is a military structure built in the 17th century for the defense of Lille and as part of the precarious area. Called by Vauban himself the “queen of citadels”, the military structure is remarkable for its dimensions, the quality of its architecture and its current state of conservation.
The entire citadel was classified as a historic monument by decree of September 5, 2012 after different components were classified in 1914, 1921 and 1934.
