The bronze statue of King D. João I on horseback was erected on the penultimate day of 1971 in Praça da Figueira, where the Figueira Market once stood.
Crafted by sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida, known for his bas-reliefs on the facade of Cineteatro Éden in Lisbon, the statue sits atop a pedestal designed by architect Jorge Segurado. 🐎🏛️
