Le Furet du Nord is a chain of bookstores originating from Lille in the Nord department in France. Its origin dates back to 1936 when a fur store, located Rue de la Vieille Comédie, was transformed into a bookstore, while retaining its name, which referred to a local tradition: rabbit hunting with ferrets.
Today the largest is located in Lille on the Grand'Place. It has been established there since 1959 and was the largest bookstore in the world from 1992 to 19991. In 2014, it is one of the three largest bookstores in France.
