Edvard Eriksen created The Little Mermaid 🧜♀️ as a tribute to Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen and his famous tale about a mermaid becoming human. She is one of Europe's most recognizable landmarks, attracting about 1 million visitors annually. Unfortunately, the sculpture has also been a target for vandals, who have blown the mermaid figure off its perch and beheaded or painted it.
The sculpture is displayed on a rock by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade in Copenhagen, Denmark.
