🏰 São Jorge Castle, also known as Saint George's Castle, is a historic fortress in Lisbon, Portugal, situated in the freguesia of Santa Maria Maior. With human occupation dating back to the 8th century BC and the oldest fortifications from the 2nd century BC, the hill on which the castle stands has witnessed the presence of Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, and Moors before being conquered by the Portuguese in the 1147 Siege of Lisbon.
