Walking up the Duque Stairs (Escadinhas do Duque) in the Rossio neighborhood, we arrived at the Solar do Duque restaurant π΄. The Duque Stairs were built in the 19th century and are named after the Duke of Cadaval's residence nearby π°. In the 18th century, the stairs were a steep road π€οΈ. Due to the development of the city and the influx of people into Lisbon, in the 19th century, this steep ancient road was converted into stairs ποΈ. Now, walking down the Duque Stairs, you can reach PraΓ§a do Rossio and its bohemian neighborhood in the center of Lisbon πΆββοΈπΆββοΈ, and walking up, you can walk to Miradouro de SΓ£o Pedro de AlcΓ’ntara π. In the early 20th century, several buildings in the Duke's Palace were acquired by a Portuguese entrepreneur named Moreira da Silva, who transformed one of the buildings into the Solar do Duque restaurant π π½οΈ. Today, the Solar do Duque restaurant has been run by the owner and his wife for a full thirty years π. They never relax their pursuit of fresh ingredients π₯¦π π. Every morning, the chef and the boss lady go to the local market to select the freshest ingredients to ensure that every dish is fresh and delicious π. These fresh ingredients, paired with Portuguese specialty olive oil, spices, and wine π·, are carefully cooked to create authentic Portuguese dishes π΅πΉ. This focus and care on ingredients makes people taste not only delicious food here, but also a culinary art that allows them to experience the spirit of craftsmanship π©βπ³π¨βπ³.
