Yiannis Makriyiannis (1797–1864), originally Ioannis Triantaphyllou, was a Greek merchant, military officer, and politician known for his Memoirs. Rising from humble beginnings, he became a general during the Greek War of Independence, achieving notable victories, including the successful defense of Nafplio in the Battle of the Lerna Mills. Post-independence, he played a key role in establishing the first Constitution of the Kingdom of Greece, facing a tumultuous public career that included a death sentence, later pardoned.
